This hands-on patellofemoral surgery course is designed to emphasize current anatomic, diagnostic and technical pearls that will help optimize patient outcomes. Participants will discover how to do precision MPFL and MQTFL reconstruction and examine how to move tibial tubercle safely and appropriately. New, proven, and safe approaches to patellofemoral surgery with hands on cadaver knees availability will be explored in depth. The 5th annual surgical training course, “New Concepts in Patellofemoral Surgery: From Instability to Arthroplasty,” a joint sponsorship of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Patellofemoral Foundation took place on September 9, 2016 at the world-class Orthopaedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois. The Patellofemoral Foundation provided the Course directors which included John Fulkerson, MD (president of the PFF), Jack Farr II, MD (Vice-President), Andy Cosgarea, MD (Board Member), Jason Koh, MD (Secretary), and Bill Post, MD (Board Member). The foundation was responsible for coordinating the agenda for the lectures and the surgical demonstrations. The hands-on patellofemoral surgery course was designed to emphasize current anatomic, diagnostic and technical pearls that will help optimize patient outcomes. The 2013 Orthopedic Learning Center course was sold out with 48 orthopedic surgeons attending April 12 and 13, 2013 in Rosemont, Illinois, at the Orthopedic Learning Center. All of these surgeons learned indications and techincal skills for several key patellofemoral surgery procedures. Participants uniformly reported a very favorable experience. The course was co-sponsored by the Patellofemoral Foundation and the Arthroscopy Association of North America

Drs Bill Post and Jack Andrish presented live surgical cadaver demonstrations on, respectively, medial patella stabilization and anteromedial tibial tubercle transfer at the July 2012 American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine meeting in Baltimore. A crowd of over 250 orthopedic surgeons attended.

The PF foundation co-sponsored (with the Arthroscopy Association of North America) a hands-on cadaver PF surgery course at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois on January 20 and 21, 2012 for orthopedic surgeons. Despite a snowstorm, 39 participants and 20 instructors showed up for this "first ever" hands on PF Surgery Course. The next course is being planned for April 12-14, 2013.

At its most recent board of director's meeting, the Arthroscopy Association of North America decided to co-sponsor, with the Patellofemoral Foundation, a hands-on cadaver surgery course on patellofemoral surgery for orthopedic surgeons January 20-21, 2012 at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Rosemont, IL. Dr Peter Jokl spearheaded this project. Drs Jack Farr and Jason Koh are the program directors and will join Drs Anthony Schepsis and John Fulkerson as master surgery instructors. 

Patella course hosted at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City

On April 25th 2009, Ronald Grelsamer, MD and James Gladstone, MD hosted a Patella course at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. It was standing room only, as over 130 orthopedists, physical therapists and allied health professionals listened to a panel of experts taken mostly from the International Patellofemoral Study Group. These included Vicente Sanchez-Alfonso and Fred Almqvist (who flew in from Spain and Belgium respectively), Rick Cautilli from Philadelphia, Jack Farr (Indianapolis), Wayne Leadbetter from Baltimore, Anthony Schepsis (Boston), as well as Elliot Hershman and Eveline Erni (PT) from New York. John Fulkerson, MD, founder of the International Patellofemoral Study Group and of the Patellofemoral Foundation was the Keynote Speaker. (Submitted by Ronald Grelsamer MD)
