Board Member Spotlight: Daniel W. Green, MD, MS, FACS

Daniel W. Green, MD, MS, FACS, is Chief of the Pediatric Orthopedic Service at HSS. A pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee surgery for children and adolescents, he founded the HSS Pediatric Sports Program. He is also a recipient of the Philip D Wilson Teaching award selected by graduating orthopedic surgery residents and for the past 5 years has served as the Associate Director of the HSS Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program.

Outside of HSS, Dr. Green has participated in many leadership roles, including as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Past President of the New York County Medical Society, a Board of Counselor for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a charter member of the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRISM), a board member of the PatelloFemoral Foundation, and serves as membership chair of the International Patella Study Group.

Dr. Green has taken care of young athletes in the highest levels of sport, including national and Olympic athletes, and understands the emotional impact associated with sports injuries. He typically follows his athlete patients through their college careers and has even had the opportunity to follow some into their professional careers. He is a team physician with the FIVB (Federation Internationale De Volleyball) and provides medical coverage for the USA Men’s and Women’s National (Olympic) Volleyball Teams.

A holder of the Mary Kathryn and Alexander Navab Chair for Pediatric Orthopedic Research at HSS, Dr. Green has written more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters focused on pediatric and adolescent knee surgery.
